FOREST FIRE RESEARCH IN OUR GROUP (GOTA)

Forest fires is one of the research topics that we work on the "Grupo de Observacion de la Tierra y la Atmosfera (GOTA)", at la Laguna University (SPAIN). Our main interests on this sense have been the development of a Fire Risk Dynamic Index and burnt area mapping estimation for the Canary Islands. This is a collaboration work of the following scientists:

  • Pedro A. Hernández-Leal
  • Manuel Arbelo
  • Alejandro González-Calvo
  • Alfonso Alonso-Benito
  • Africa Barreto
  • Laia Nuñez-Casillas
  • Luis Arvelo-Valencia

Actually we are collaborating with Inventiaplus (a software development company), and the "Instituto tecnológico de Canarias (ITC)", providing them the static and dynamic fire risk levels for the Canary Islands. These variables will serve as input parameters to their simulation model of fire propagation based on SADEMER 3D software (See simulation for the last fire in la Palma island, August 2009).
