Mª Adelaida Jurado Spuch, PhD La Laguna, MA in ELT London, MA in Language Acquisition Essex. Her research interests are theoretical linguistics, language acquisition, of both first and non-primary languages, and language teaching. Her doctoral thesis was on the relationship between L2 acquisition research and language teaching. She has undertaken two master degrees on FL teaching and language acquisition respectively. She has also conducted a three-year research project on language acquisition in the classroom. Her current research centres on the acquisition of L2 English grammatical morphology by Spanish speakers, seeking to unveil the mechanisms these learners employ in their development of L2 syntax. The linguistic model she is using in order to establish the construction of the mental grammars of these learners is chomskian minimalist program. In particular, she is very much concerned with measuring the results of her research against the more general, and influential, theories for the developmental and logical problems in Second Language Acquisition (SLA) that have emerged during the 90s, namely 'minimal trees', 'valueless features', and 'full transfer/full access' hypothesis, taking also into account Hawkins' (1997) composite 'working theory'. At this point, the interface between SLA research and language pedagogy arises in her research concerns, mainly as applied SLA (Ellis, 1997), since it is viewed as a type of research that should simultaneously encompass the theory and practice of SLA and pedagogy, teaming teacher and researcher in the investigation which will produce further knowledge on classroom language learning.
