CETÁCEOS - BIOECOMAC

The Line of Research "Studies of Free-Swimming Cetaceans" is part of the Research Group on Biology, Ecology and Marine Conservation (BIOECOMAC) of La Laguna University. Cetacean research includes studies on population, distribution, habitat use, foraging ecology, diving behaviour and acoustic ecology of different cetacean species. There is a strong focus on deep divers because the Archipelago holds year-round populations of at least four deep-diving toothed whale species. Complementary studies on deep-sea oceanography and biodiversity are performed to help understanding the biology of the cetacean species in the Canary Islands and the ecological requirements for their conservation.
